Meet Terence Mekoski, a true Constitutional Republican and your choice for Macomb County Sheriff.
Husband, father of four, grandfather of 12 and republican candidate for Macomb County Sheriff. I have spent over 30 years upholding our Constitution as a Law Enforcement officer. Having managed multi-million-dollar budgets and teams of over 1,000 personnel, I know what it means to lead and serve. Recently, I was proud to speak for the people of the former 36th Michigan House District as a Michigan State Representative that encompassed the Village of Romeo, Washington, Bruce and Shelby Townships. After much prayerful consideration, the decision to run for Macomb County Sheriff has become unquestionable. I am committed to upholding the Constitution and protecting the rights of the people of Macomb County in addition to addressing several serious issues we have in our County.
Terence's Top Priorities:
- Uphold Our United States Constitution and Protect Your Rights
- Attack the Opioid and Fentanyl Epidemic in Our Neighborhoods
- Inform and Protect our Senior Citizens from Scams and Fraud
- Bring Awareness and Address Macomb County's Human/Child Sex Trafficking
- Protect our County Borders/Train & Expand Our Marine Division to Assist
- Train/Assign More School Liaison Officers to Protect our Children
A Career of Service
in addition to serving as a police officer in Detroit from 1985 to 1990, I began a 26-year career at the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office. Rising from the rank of Deputy II working in the county jail and as a Patrol Deputy, I then went onto Detective, Sergeant, Lieutenant in the jail with well over 1,000 inmates and back to the Patrol Services Division where I finally retired in 2016 as their Deputy Commander of Patrol Services.
During my career, I served as a Sergeant in the Narcotics Enforcement Unit and as Agent in Charge of a FBI Multi-Agency Task Force and a Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Multi-Jurisdictional Task Force for over 15 years. My unit’s surveillance of drug smugglers apprehended some of the largest drug seizures in Macomb County's history. In addition to narcotics trafficking, I regularly dealt directly with human sex trafficking in Oakland and Macomb County's hotels and motels while on surveillance details. I firmly believe that an increase in law enforcement efforts needs to be addressed as Macomb County is a border county allowing drug and human/child sex trafficking into our communities on a daily basis.
Soon after retirement, I returned to work at the DEA as their Senior Financial Investigator for the Opioid Strike Task Force to continue the fight against our nation’s drug crisis. Unfortunately, most of us either know or have a friend or family member that is dealing with addiction, has dealt with addiction or has lost someone dear to this deadly epidemic. This has affected far too many families in our communities including mine and I intend to use my many years of experience fighting narcotics in our neighborhoods to battle this extremely important issue.
In addition, I have also witnessed and dealt with criminals taking advantage of our senior citizens with financial scams of unbelievable proportion that have wiped out savings accounts, bankrupted our loved ones and and we need to better inform our citizens of these scams.
In closing, as a Michigan State Representative having recently served in Lansing, I continued my civil servant duty and desire to serve our communities and provide solutions for Michigan's toughest challenges. By serving as a law maker in Lansing, I have gained valuable knowledge on how to address our citizens issues, create bills and obtain resources to bring back to Macomb County. It would be an honor to serve you and your family as your Sheriff in Macomb County. The photos below are of my swear-in at the Capitol in Lansing in 2022 as well as several presidential security details I had the honor to carry out.
